New Paleo Plus Ancient Chocolate Bar

paleo plus ancient chocolate barDon’t be fooled by the name, this delicious-sounding snack is actually packed with protein, fiber and healthy organic ingredients. If you like dense, sweet, chewy snack bars that are filling, you’ll probably dig this one.

Here is the run-down on ingredients:

  • Egg White Protein
  • Chicory Root Fiber
  • Organic Cashew Butter
  • Organic Dates
  • Organic Clover Honey
  • Organic Coconut
  • Dark Chocolate Chips (unsweetened chocolate, cane sugar)
  • Organic Cashews
  • Organic Cocoa
  • Organic Coconut OIl
  • Organic Chia Seeds
  • Sea Salt
  • Organic Vanilla Extract

What I Like About It:

In the world of paleo bars, it’s not so easy to find products that are both high in protein and high in fiber. However, the Paleo Plus Ancient Chocolate Bar has both: 13 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber. Besides the fact that it’s great for re-fueling after a workout, it’s highly satiating as well.

I am a big fan of chia seeds. I add chia seeds to all of my smoothies due to their high protein, fiber and omega 3 content, not to mention they enhance the consistency. It’s great to get them in a protein bar as well.

Coconut oil is another big plus. I use coconut oil on vegetables, fish and sometimes in my coffee. Even though this bar has plenty of nuts, coconut and chia seeds, it is not exceptionally high in fat content – coming in at 9 grams of fat per bar.

What I Don’t Like:

This bar is chewy. I prefer less chewy bars, but that is just personal preference. Since it is chewier, it takes longer to consume, which may actually be an advantage for people who want to eat more slowly.

There are also several sweeteners in this bar: honey, dates and cane sugar. This is simply something to note if you are trying to avoid sweeteners. That said, the Ancient Chocolate is not overly sweet and only racks up 13 grams in net sugars. Not too bad.

To Sum it Up:

Overall, I like this bar since it is packed with protein and fiber, and this product works as a very filling stand-alone snack. They cost about $3 per bar, and you can get them here.
