Tanka Buffalo Bars: The Pros & Cons
If you have never heard of a Tanka Bar before, you may be surprised to find out it’s essentially just buffalo meat and dried cranberries. It’s not your typical protein bar.
That said, it’s paleo and it is a good source of natural protein. Although it is more like a meat jerky that what you envision as a protein bar, it comes in convenient snack-sized packaging and it’s called a bar, so why not add it to the list? 😉
New: Also see their new Apple & Orange Peel Buffalo Jerky Bar.
This is a Good Bar for:
People who want a low-fat protein bar but who don’t mind the higher sodium levels.
This is Not a Good Bar for:
Vegetarians. (Sorry – I couldn’t resist!)
OK, It’s More than Just Buffalo and Cranberries…
- buffalo
- cranberries
- sugar
- sea salt
- encapsulated lactic acid
- celery juice
- black pepper
- spices
- garlic
- onion powder
- red pepper
- and sea salt
Actually, reading those ingredients makes me feel like a Bloody Mary. I bet the Tanka Bar would go great with one.
Anyway… besides being gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free, it also does not contain nitrites, MSG or hormones. Way healthier than your plastic-wrapped highly-preserved beef jerky you see at the store.
No problem! Get the variety pack. You get to try all flavors (Apple Orange Peel, Spicy Pepper, and Slow Smoked Original) and can keep yourself from getting bored eating jerky as a regular snack. This is a 12-pack containing 4 bars of each flavor.
