Yes Bar – How Does it Compare to Other Paleo Snacks?

Dark Chocolate Chip Yes Bar

Dark Chocolate Chip Yes BarDo you want a healthy snack that will satisfy your sweet tooth and curb your carb cravings? Yes Bar makes a line of “Healthy Cookies” that may give you just what you’re looking for…

The Pros and Cons of Yes Snack Bars:

Compared to your average cookie, these bars contain more protein (4-5 grams). That said, when matched against a 20g paleo protein bar, these “healthy cookies” sit low on the protein scale.

Therefore, I don’t think that the Yes Bar is the best alternative for an after-workout protein snack. However, it makes a great swap for high sugar kids’ treats, granola bars or other processed snacks.

Note: Not only do they contain more nutritious ingredients, but they are more satisfying and give you more energy. And for those reasons, Yes Bars make a great hiking snack too.

They almost seem like a healthy trail mix cleverly disguised as a chocolate chip cookie. In other words, you can enjoy an after-dinner dessert without feeling guilty. =)

Ingredient and Nutrition Information for Yes Bars:

Instead of flour, all of the Yes Bars consist of a base containing mainly nuts and seeds. Depending on the flavor you choose, these could be a combination of almonds, cashews, pecans, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower, chia, flax and/or sesame seeds.

For example, the label below shows the nutrition facts and ingredient label for the Dark Chocolate Chip bar. (Each bar flavor tends to have similar calories, protein, fat and carb counts.)

As a result, these snack bars have a more hearty, crunchy texture than your typical cookie. They take longer to eat and definitely are more filling than processed foods.

Note: In addition, they have a low glycemic index, so they won’t spike your blood sugar as much. Therefore, if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth while on a low-carb diet, Yes Bars provide a great solution.

Plus, you’ll find even more interesting flavors from unexpected ingredients like tart cherries, cranberries and apricots. In fact, Yes Snack Bars seem more like homemade treats than packaged food products.

Actually, these store-bought Keto snacks have high quality ingredients. Plus, they use the natural sweeteners that Keto people like (allulose and monk fruit extract).

Therefore, you might prefer these to homemade no-bake bars with almond butter, cocoa butter etc.. By the time you purchased similar natural, Keto-friendly ingredients yourself (along with the sweeteners), you might actually spend more money by making them yourself.

Skout Organic Protein Bar -VS- RXBar

Skout Organic Protein Bar Variety Pack

Do you want to find healthy, organic snack bars that contains a good amount of protein too? The Skout Organic Protein Bar is made from all-natural, organic ingredients, plus it comes in a variety of flavors. Skout Organic Protein Bar Variety Pack

On top of that, each flavor contains minimal ingredients. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about a long list of non-necessary, processed ingredients.

Skout Energy Bar Ingredients Compared to RXBars:

Organic Peanut Butter Protein BarFor example, the Peanut Butter bar has only 4 ingredients. (Organic dates, organic peanut butter, pink Himalayan salt and organic virgin coconut oil.)

On the other hand, the Salted Chocolate bars contain 7 ingredients. (Organic dates, organic sunflower seeds, organic sunflower seed powder, organic cocoa, organic pumpkin seeds, pink Himalayan salt and organic chocolate flavor.)

My first thought when I read the ingredient list was, “These seem a lot like the RXBar.” So, I went and compared the two.

First of all, RXBars do not contain organic ingredients. This may or may not matter to you. However, when it comes to peanuts, you may care. According to The Street, “Non-organic peanut butters are high in pesticides as well as fungus. They contain aflatoxin, which is a potential carcinogen”.

RXBar Variety Pack - Minimal Ingredients, Paleo, HealthySecond, I noticed that RXBars have a higher protein content, mainly derived from egg whites. So, if you prefer more protein, you may like the RXBar better. However, if you have an egg allergy or eat a vegan diet, you may prefer the Skout bar better.

Third, Skout organic energy bars cost more. As I write this, a RXBar costs about $1.80 per bar, whereas a Skout Bar costs about $2.50. (That’s if you buy them in a variety pack.)

Of course, it makes sense that the organic version costs more than the non-organic brand. Not to mention, $2.50 is a decent price for an all-organic protein bar.

All that said, both snacks are Paleo approved. Plus, neither brand adds sugar, grains, gluten, etc..

Note: In other words, if you like minimal-ingredient protein bars, both of these companies offer very healthy options. I personally think they provide a nutritious alternative to a breakfast bar, after-dinner desert or satiating movie snack.

Skout Bar Nutrition Breakdown:

In addition to containing all organic ingredients, Skout energy bars have a few other heath benefits that you may not have noticed.

First of all, each bar provides 4g (or 14% DV) of fiber. In my opinion, you get a healthy dose of fiber without getting so much that it disrupts your digestive system.

Secondly, the peanut butter bar in particular contains 30% DV of Niacin, 20% DV of Magnesium and 10% DV of Potassium. WebMD reports that Niacin (Vitamin B3) is great for improving cholesterol, while Magnesium helps normalize blood pressure, build strong bones and can improve sleep.
