Paleo Fruit Bars – “Go Native”

Go Native Paleo Fruit BarsAlthough many people who follow a paleo diet don’t eat a lot of fruit, it can be nice to have it on hand when your sweet tooth is having a craving.

Packaged natural fruit snacks last longer than fresh produce, so you can easily keep them on hand for afternoon pick-me-ups, healthy kids snacks, on-the-go treats, a long commute, a busy day at the office or even an after-dinner dessert.

As we all know, it’s a lot better to break a diet with a healthy sweet treat than to succumb to a bag of cookies, tub of ice cream. Not only will your body thank you, but you won’t have to deal with the lingering regret afterwards.

The Go Native Raspberry and Apple Premium Fruit Bars are perfectly designed for these cravings. Not only are they all-natural (containing fruit puree, fruit juice and citrus fiber), but they are packaged in small servings, so that if you only want a couple of bites to curb your craving, you don’t get sucked into eating an entire 350 calorie treat. These snacks only have about 65 calories and 16 carbs per individually-packaged serving.

Here’s some more good stuff:

  • They only contain non-GMO fruit
  • They are nut-free, soy-free and gluten free so they can fit into pretty much anyone’s diet plan
  • They don’t contain added processed sugars, artificial flavors or preservatives

Go Native Bars provide an easy way to steer kids to eat nutritious snacks instead of candy bars and chips. As opposed to being handed an apple or banana, kids often prefer a edible treat in a package. It’s a hassle-free to get them to eat their daily serving of fruit, and it’s less work for parents.

…But maybe these paleo fruit bars not for you?

Even though these bars have significantly less sugar than other sweet bars, if you are trying to eliminate sugar altogether from your diet, you may want to stick with sweet treats sweetened with stevia. Alternatively, you could go with a sweet and salty nut bar like the PaleoLife Bar, Raw Revolution Bars or Caveman Bars that have a good dose of healthy fat to slow down the absorption of sugar so you don’t get a blood sugar spike.

Go Native Fruit Bites Mango and Apple FlavorOther flavors? Why yes!

Besides the Apple Raspberry shown above, there are 3 other flavors (in the form of “fruit bites” rather than bars):

Of course, you don’t have to buy naturally-made fruit snacks. You can make them yourself and choose them ingredients and flavors that you specifically want.

As long as you don’t mind spending time in the kitchen, there are several recipes that are fairy easy to make, and some don’t require cooking. You can then keep them in small zip-lock bags for when you are ready for a sweet treat, but keep in mind that they won’t stay fresh as long as the pre-packaged variety.

Raw Crunch Bars – The Pros & Cons of this Paleo Bar

Raw Crunch Bars Variety Pack with 6 Different FlavorsThe Raw Crunch Bar Variety Pack offer a great solution for people who want to eat healthy, but also enjoy snacking too.

The Pros:

These raw paleo bars contain a well-rounded list of ingredients, with a good amount of healthy fats, protein, fiber and carbs.

One of the first things that I noticed about Raw Crunch Bars is that they contain several ingredients that supply omega-3 fatty acids. A diet high in omega-3 fatty acids helps boost brain function and cardiovascular health.

People on a low-carb diet or who are trying to lose weight will also like this paleo bar. Each package contains only 150 calories, and there are approximately 10 grams of carbs in each serving. (It is important to note that 3 of these grams are from fiber.)

While only containing 150 calories, these bars are nutritionally dense and very satisfying due to the healthy fats. They also don’t spike your blood sugar, since they only contain 5 grams of sugar per serving.

Something unique about this product is that the company dehydrates the ingredients in their bars rather than baking them. In addition to keeping them raw, it helps to keep the enzymes intact for an even healthier snack. (Enzymes aid with digestion.)

More Health Benefits of the Raw Crunch Bars:

  • Raw
  • Organic
  • Non-GMO
  • Gluten Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Contains Superfoods and Antioxidants

Possible Disadvantages:

1. Raw Crunch Bars cost about $20 for 6-bar variety pack. They cost more than other organic and all-natural paleo bars. For example, the Raw Revolution Bars cost about $20 on average for a package of 12 bars. These also contain organic, raw and non-GMO ingredients with comparable levels of protein, fiber and omega-3’s.

That said, you can save money on Raw Crunch Bars by getting a 12-bar pack of a single flavor. These cost between $31 and $33.

2. All of the Raw Crunch Bars contain nuts and seeds. If you are allergic to these ingredients or aren’t a fan of trail mix, you probably shouldn’t get these bars.

Why I Like Nutrawbar Organic Raw Fruit & Nut Bars…

4 Nutrawbar Flavors
Here is another great paleo bar with minimal ingredients. However, I wouldn’t call it a high protein bar.

If you are looking for a high protein paleo bar, check out Rise Protein Bars, Paleo Protein Bars or BHU FIT Bars.

I think of Nutrawbars more as energy bars which are very satiating, due to their nut and coconut oil content. They work great as an in-between-meal snack or after-dinner dessert, in my opinion.

There are 4 flavors to choose from, and the flavor with the highest protein content is the pistachio bar. It has 6 grams of protein.

Although the Nutrawbars don’t have the advantage of high protein, here is what they do have:

  • 100% Certified Organic
  • Vegan
  • Raw
  • Kosher
  • Non-GMO
  • Gluten-Free
  • Dairy-Free
  • Soy-Free
  • Whey-Free

So, Why Nutrawbars?

The goal of the company is to make their snack bars with 5 ingredients or less, and make them without artificial additives or preservatives.

Yes, there are other fruit-and-nut bars on the market. Yes, there are other brands that make paleo bars with minimal ingredients. What I like about Nutrawbars is their unique flavors.

First of all, I am a big fan of pistachio nuts. I haven’t found many bars that have them. Nutrawbars makes a 100% raw pistachio bar with a unique twist of cardamom spice.

Secondly, chia seeds are a very nutrient dense ingredient, known most for their omega-3 content and fiber. I like paleo bars that give me the nutrition I want without having to eat extra fish or oatmeal.

The other two flavors, Coconut and Fig, are not significantly different from other brands I have seen. But they are good nonetheless. I think of them more like “dessert” bars, to help me stop my cake and ice cream craving after dinner.

Another cool thing is that you can get these flavors in a 12-bar variety pack, so you’ll never get bored.

Nutrawbar Ingredients:

Coconut:
Organic Dates, Organic Coconut, Organic Almonds and Organic Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil.

Pistachio:
Organic Dates, Organic Pistachios Organic Almonds, Organic Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil and Organic Green Cardamom.

Fig:
Organic Whole Figs, Organic Almonds and Organic Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil.

Chia Seed:
Organic Dates, Organic Chia Seeds, Organic Almonds and Organic Cashews.

In addition to their Nutrawbars, Nutrawfoods also makes pistachio butters, pistachio oil and almond oil. They’re not cheap, but they’re different.
