The Grain-Free Nola Bar & Puffed Quinoa?

Going Grain-Free? The Nola Bar may be your new snack

Nola Bars - Where's the Grain?
Besides not having grains, it’s also dairy-free, soy-free, peanut-free and, of course, gluten free.

This bar eliminates many of the ingredients commonly known for inflammation and allergy problems.

As you’d expect, the sweeteners in Nola Bars are all natural: dates and clover honey. These bars aren’t overly sweet either. Total carbohydrates per bar is 16 (with 4 being from fiber).

They are higher in fat (16 grams) while being lower in carbs (9 grams sugar) and protein (5 grams), so if you are afraid of fat, this snack is probably not for you.

If you are not afraid of fat (mainly from coconut oil, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds and coconut) you will be highly satiated.

Puffed Quinoa in a Snack Bar?

Something interesting about this snack is that it contains puffed quinoa. If you’re on a grain-free diet, you probably already know that quinoa is a seed rather than a grain (although it is constantly mistaken for one).

Quinoa is known for having a surprisingly high ratio of protein to carbs, plus the proteins have a complete essential amino acid profile. This is why many people consider it a superfood.

However, even though most health enthusiasts have heard of quinoa, they might not have tried the “puffed” version. (Did you know that you can “puff” it yourself?).

Although puffed quinoa isn’t significantly bigger than the seed itself, its changes the texture so much that it can then be enjoyed as a cereal in a marshmallow treat or other recipes. By the way, it’s a good ingredient to have on hand in your pantry to add to recipes when you want to increase the protein and fiber content of the dish…

Where Did Nola Bars Come From?

Jordan Porter, owner of The Annex Kitchen, created the Nola Bar out of her quest to resolve her own digestive problems. By switching to a Paleo diet and avoiding foods that some people associate with aggravating digestive issues, she has made great improvements in her health. Now she shares many of her recipes online at the Nola Blog.

Nola Bar Ingredients
Another thing you might like is that these snacks are handmade-to-order in small batches and shipped fresh. There are not many snack bars you can say that about.

Note: one flavor.

Ingredients: almonds, pumpkin seeds, pistachios, flax, chia seed and puffed quinoa, along with oil-free unsweetened Bing cherries, fair-trade dark chocolate, unrefined virgin coconut oil, dates and clover honey.

PS. I almost forgot to tell you about the high iron content (20% RDA). Good stuff!

Paleo Desserts-To-Go?

Desserts-to-goOh dude.

Brownie Bomb. Mustang Bar. Cacao Now. Bandito. MacAttack.

I don’t think I need to say much here. The names and photos speak for themselves.

If you are in need of a paleo dessert, look no further. No gluten, grain, dairy or other ingredients you don’t want.

They are ready-made and individually packaged, so you can grab them and go. You might even be tempted to sneak one of these tasty treats in for breakfast.

Oops! Did I say that out loud?

Brownie Bomb

MacAttack

Mustang Bar

Cacao Now!

The Health Bomb of paleo desserts!

Bandito

Yes, you’re right. It looks like a peanut butter cup.
But it doesn’t have any peanut butter!

But What’s So Great About Paleo Desserts?

OK. So maybe I’ll say a little more. Even if you’re not a regular dessert-eater, it’s always nice to have healthy sweet treats on hand in case you need them – so you can prevent yourself from going on a full-fledged sugar-eating binge.

These mini paleo desserts essentially satisfy your occasional carb cravings but give you healthy nutrients instead. At about $4.50 a serving, this may seem a little steep for a packaged paleo snack, but when compared to the guilty hungover feeling we get after eating a giant slice of chocolate cake or pint of ice cream – it’s cheap!

Besides, the laugh you get from telling people you had a MacAttack after dinner is worth the price of the treat itself.

What Do I Think About the Chicken Primal Bar?

Chicken Primal Bar Package, Nutrition and ingredient ListDo you want a high-protein meat snack, but you get tired of beef jerky?

Or maybe you want an all-natural protein bar that has minimal carbs?

Perhaps you prefer a complete protein bar instead of one that contains processed protein powder?

Or possibly you just want to bite into a piece of chicken?

In any case, the Chicken Primal Bar will work for you. Well, probably. It has proved to be very pleasing for lots of other people. Not that you’re like them, or anything.

I Love Savory Meat Snacks Like the Chicken Primal Bar

Anyway, I really like meat snacks. Yes, protein bars taste great, but the savory chewiness gets me with treats like beef or bison jerky.

Not only do I like salt (especially after a workout or when I go hiking), but it tends to leave me more satisfied after I eat it. Sweet snacks sometimes leave me craving more, even if they contain fruit or a natural sweetener.

Furthermore, chewy foods let me enjoy the process of eating for longer. This tactic really works for me when I try to lose weight or want to eat less. Chewy foods. Try it sometime. =)

Just like other meat-based paleo protein bars on this site, the chicken has no added hormones. The bar contains no gluten, sugar, artificial ingredients or nitrates.

I really like the Chicken Primal Bars because they contain lean chicken. Therefore, you can digest them easily. Plus, if you have a hectic schedule, travel a lot or multi-task (like me), then you’ll probably appreciate this.
